Testimonies of Healing - Dr. Stanley Horton

The two most outstanding healings in my family: My grandfather, Samuel Horton was operated on for prostate cancer. The surgeon cut through the tube so that the urine was draining out through the wound. He placed pads to absorb the urine and sent my grandfather home to die. My uncle, Joseph Clark, was then the pastor of the Assembly of God in North Hollywood, called us all together. When he prayed we felt the presence of God in a powerful way. The next morning his daughter, my Aunt Birdie, went up to change the bandages. The wound was all healed up, perfectly clean and healed up completely in a few days. My grandfather went back to work and lived to be 87. That healing had to involve creative power.

The other outstanding healing came when my father developed a goose-egg sized lump on his throat. He went down to the 120 room in Angeles Temple where his friend Brother Arthur was ministering. When Brother Arthur prayed the lump melted away immediately and never came back.

Another time I was preaching in an Assembly in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. After the service, a woman came up and asked me to pray for the cancer in her. Her doctor had told her this disease would take her life in a short time. Four years later I was asked to preach in the same church. While sitting on the platform the pastor pointed the same woman out. After I had prayed she was totally healed and was still praising the Lord.

God is still the Great Physician. Yahweh-Raphah, Rophe is a participle indicating it is His nature to heal.

A Sign In Vietnamese Caught Her Eyes

Diep Huynh, a Vietnamese lady, when living in Houston, Texas, discovered that her abdomen was bloated. It swelled from size eight to size sixteen and was throbbing with pain. She visited a doctor at the Hong Kong City Mall in Houston. The doctor’s initial diagnosis was not good. He recommended Diep to have a colonoscopy for a more accurate diagnosis. The doctor suspected that she had a tumor because her abdomen felt hard like rock. Diep was shocked. She had migrated to America so as to have a better future and now this. She had no money or insurance for any expensive medical treatment. As she left the doctor’s office, she did not know what to do. She was desperate for someone to tell her what to do. Then a sign in Vietnamese caught her eye. Someone had set up a booth in the mall that put up sign that offered ‘Healing Prayer’ for Americans and also for Vietnamese migrants.
Diep approached the prayer booth and asked for prayer. Pastor Khanh and his ministry partner, Jordan, laid hands on Diep and commanded the tumor to be gone in the name of Jesus. Diep felt something literally moved inside her abdomen. She felt a definite sensation of fluid coming out of her and wetting her pants. But as she touched the pants, they were dry. The poor lady then grabbed hold of her pants because they were dropping down. Something had happened to her abdomen as it had shrunk to its normal size. Diep was completely healed and in gratitude, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord.
The story did not end there. Diep began attending the Vietnamese Baptist Church. She became burdened for the salvation of her family members that were still in Vietnam. She sent them letters that included her pastor’s sermon notes and torn pages of the Vietnamese bible. Through her distant witnessing, her family members in Vietnam accepted Christ as their Savior. These new Christians witnessed to others in their hometown.
When Diep had a chance to visit her motherland, she shared with the people in her hometown what the Lord had done for her. Hundreds of Vietnamese gave their lives to Jesus because they did not just listen to the testimony but also experienced actual miraculous healing in the name of Jesus. God began to use Diep to minister mass healing to large crowds in the mighty name of Jesus. The latest that I have heard is that out of her ministry, four new churches were established.
Pastor Khanh and his team were trained by Pastor William Lau in one of The Elijah Challenge Training seminars. Today, they continue to operate the Healing Outreach at the Hong Kong Mall in Houston, Texas. Today, every Saturday, about 100 people are accepting Christ as their Savior at this Healing Outreach. The Vietnamese Baptist Church in Houston, Texas is now known as the fastest growing Vietnamese church in North America.

Philippines: Gays Stage Mock Crusade But Accept Christ

The Elijah Challenge Ministry Conducted by Brother Jim Hathaway and Dr. Thiagan Sinnadurai in the Philippines in November 2010

Canadian disciple Jim Hathaway attended The Elijah Challenge Advanced Training in February 2008. Dr. Thiagan Sinnadurai is a Malaysian dentist who organized the first Elijah Challenge Seminar in Bangsar, Malaysia in 2005.

Amazing Miracles
This is my third trip back to the Philippines and I arranged for Dr. Thiagan, a dentist to be a part of this adventure. He was at the Blaan tribe for the first three days, training medical staff and treating patients in the village where Pastor Elito lives and has his church.

I was at the Bible school in Alabel for the first three days. I am so thankful to the Lord for Dr. Thiagan was able to come as he was not only a blessing to the Blaan people but a great help and now my friend! He worked many, many long hours tending to the immediate needs of all that needed his help.

The medical staff consisted of the family of Pastor Elito and church members. Dr. Thaigan was impressed at how quickly they learned their role as technical aids for him. He told me that they learned in one afternoon of training what others take up to a month to learn. Thanks to God and you girls for all your help!

Pastor Tito had arranged a small truck to pick me up at the airport. I entered the back of the truck and was greeted by 12 other folks from the school. We snuggled together on our way to the Sunday service where I shared in both morning and evening services. There were two highlights of the evening service:

1] The 4 people and their families that had been practicing witchcraft, that were healed and saved from last year's crusade were at the service. They are all now baptised and regular church attendees in this new church plant, and

2] After my preaching on "leaving the world's ways and serving God," from 1 Corinthians Chapters 2-4, I had an alter call for repentance. All the leaders came up for prayer. Seemed pretty straight forward until two ladies with babies started to manifest demons. The babies were taken in the care of by another lady and then I commanded the demon out of the first lady. She collapsed on the floor crying. The second lady was a little different as she had her hands raised in the air and I thought she was praising God but I could not understand what she was saying as sometimes there was English and sometimes Tagalog and then another language. As I came closer to her the "volume" seemed to be turned up so I stood back and observed. I asked Pastor Tito if he thought she was manifesting. His thoughts were " Well she speaks English and Tagalog, but not Chinese, so I think so." Again I approached her, the "volume" again went up. I commanded the demon to hush and get out, and asked the Holy Spirit to fill her. It was just that easy. The countenance on her face and eyes had changed dramatically as she was free. I had never heard a demon talk before.

I stayed in the village of Alabel, in a two-room sort of duplex with about five other families. It was hard to tell where the village started and the farms ended as all night long the roosters crowed, cows mooed and pigs squealed. These were all different neighbours' livestock right next door. I am thankful for my ear plugs! My transportation was to ride behind Pastor Tito on his motor bike - to and from everywhere. Highlight, a western toilet in the bath house!

The next day was very fruitful. The demonstration for the Elijah Challenge course went well. Four students healed: two backs, body pain and high blood pressure. Back at the duplex the girls that were my helpers asked for prayer as Arlene was suffering from the flu and Juvilee has had a shoulder problem for four years. Both were healed instantly. Total flexibility had returned in the shoulder. Many tears!

Gays stage mock crusade next to us but accept Christ

The evening crusade was a challenge for me. There were about 300 folks in attendance at Barangay Spring. Many homosexuals and practitioners of witchcraft. This is the area where one of the Bible school students is going to plant a church. I shared the Gospel and asked those that needed healing to come forward to prove what I had shared was true. I waited and waited and waited and started to worry that no one was going to come forward because no one was coming forward! Finally one man came up. He had chest pains and he was known by all the people there. When I laid my hands on his chest there was obvious relief and he testified to the healing. Then folks started to come and all were healed.

For that night, I was a little disappointed that all those who came for healing only wanted me to pray for them. I made a slight change for the next night as I placed all the Elijah Challenge students in front of me and they had to go through the students first. This worked very well as I prayed for only a few this night.

Call for repentance, results were dramatic...
Receiving healing for migraine headache
Jim and Dr. Thiagan

There was a lot of mocking by the "gay" crowd on the second night. They were holding their own crusade complete with dancing and laying on of hands for the sick. One of the older students "commanded" them to stop. She was away from them and was surprised that after a few moments they did exactly that and joined into to the worship time and many accepted the Lord when the call to follow Jesus came.

I am continually amazed at what God can do when we make ourselves available to HIM! The other highlights for me were, 4 asthmatics came to me for healing. I could feel their chests and shoulders relaxed as their breathing returned to normal. Many backs and stomachs were healed through the students. Flexibility returned. Highlights for them were a deaf boy received his hearing and a lady whose hands we paralyzed regained total flexibility! AND even drunks were healed!

Total of 174 healed, 162 born again to be followed up and a new church started.

Reports back to us that the local people were very pleased about the crusades.

All the pastors that received training and were involved in the crusades were amazed at: 1] how cheap an outreach can be. Only using regular people and 2] how much unity there was as they were from different churches. I explained to them that the Lord's strategy through the Great Commission was to achieve that. We are simply to preach the Gospel, heal the sick and cast out demons to every nation tribe and tongue. The strategy of planting churches is all part of discipling these nations and to repeat the process. Then we will see the return of Jesus. The busyness of the "job" keeps the unity because we are busy. As with a working job when there is nothing to do, the workers always start to complain. When everyone is busy, all are happy. The same in the Kingdom of God. Preaching, discipling and church planting keeps us busy.

My challenge to each pastor was to start to plan their own Elijah Challenge outreach in the next few months and then start to plan and pray where there next church plant would be. A church planted where there is no other church, and then keep repeating this. They have caught the vision and are excited to transfer their excitement to their church members. They will also support the Bible school with students.

Back Up To The Mountain Villages

On the Wednesday Pastor Elito picked me up in his tricycle to take me to Malapatan and the Blaan people. I always enjoy being with this family as we have become very close over the last few years. Immediately on my arrival I was greeted by many old friends. I went into the church where Dr. Thiagan was busy with his new staff tending to the dental needs of the Blaan people and community. I was really overwhelmed at actually seeing what I hoped to happen actually being done in this area of ministry. And the untiring work that Dr. Thiagan was doing was fantastic!

Note the table in the immediate foreground.
Elito and his wife Deborah graciously gave up their bedrooms
for Dr. Thiagan and myself. The table is what they slept on.

A short visit and then I was in the mountain homes. I really wanted to see the Grandpa that was healed from the stroke last year. There he was enjoying life but had two complaints. It seemed like there was still a little stiffness in his thighs. I commanded this to go and it left. Second was he could not really jump in the air like he used to. I asked his age. He is 70 years old. We discerned that maybe he was just getting on with age and this had nothing to do with his stroke.

Evening crusade was very hard. During the worship time I became very ill and had to leave to use the "facilities". I was very hot and could not concentrate. I was wanting to turn the evening over to someone else, but the Lord kept saying "Leave the results up to me". During my sharing I was really unfocused and did not think I was being very clear. I thought Dr. Thiagan was praying for me as his eyes were closed but he confessed later that he was falling asleep. Oh well. But the results were great with healings as everyone that came for healing was healed.

The most dramatic was four ladies with cataracts or partial blindness received their sights back. Dr. Thiagan and I watched a lady's eyes, that were clouded over, became totally clear as we commanded the cataracts to leave.

It was difficult to get the trained Elijah Challenge students from past years to participate in the evening crusade. None of the pastors had held their own outreaches after their training. Dr. Thiagan had discerned that they were timid and really needed to know that it is the ordinary people that God uses to do His will. He shared this with the people and called for them to repent. About 40 folks came forward and Dr. Thiagan, Pastor Elito and I laid hands on each one as they cried out to God for boldness. Almost everyone fell to the ground as the Holy Spirit moved and ministered. This proved to be valuable as in the next evening's crusade their boldness to take charge was fantastic! No one came forward for salvation as all were Christians.

We left for the next evening's crusade at 5 AM. Thirty-five people piled into a jeepney built for maybe 20 passengers. If you put an extra bench in the middle of the jeepney and have some people ride on the roof, it is actually quite easy to get 35 people on board. Not to mention all the dental gear.

The Village of Barangay Lunen
Our trip took us to the Blaan village of Barangay Lunen. This village is about 1 hour off the main road and is not made for jeepnees, believe me! Anyway this area was started by a pastor in 1968. To help bring income for the Blaan people, miles and miles of mountain jungle were cleared and the people planted coconuts, bananas, rice and papayas. There are about 2000 farmers living and working in this area. I know they are prospering as their beds have mattresses.

Dr. Thiagan again went to work with his staff and this area of the world was blessed by the love of God through the ministry of Dr. Thiagan. It was so very hard for us to understand what the dental need really was. I was told that decay is so extreme that many folks had probably suffered many, many years with cavities and they were just pointing out the teeth that were hurting at the moment. Simple education on the effects of sugar was given to those that were able to come.

Evening crusade was great. It turned out that this too was another church-planting situation and the Elijah Challenge course was being used to draw new believers. The boldness of the Elijah Challenge students was evident as after I shared and asked for folks to come forward for healing the team took over. I just stood back and watched proudly as the evening proceeded with not much help. The altar call was done by the students and Pastor Elito led each first time commitment to the Lord. There were 21 saved, over 30 re-commitments and about 30 healed. Many backs, shoulders etc were healed. That was what I think because Dr. Thaigan and I were really left out as all the testimonies were in Blaan. They were actually on their own. It was great!

Below are photos of Barangay Lunen, a small village of 2000 Blaan farmers about 45 minutes off the main road. The "path" we took by jeepney was a challenge, 35 people on board, and the travel time was about 1 hour.

Elijah Challenge-trained students take charge of the meeting

I think the little grandma testified that she was healed---no one prayed for her or laid hands on her.

Dr. Thiagan and I are watching proudly as the TEC students are applying what they have learned with boldness.

Folks lining up to testify, all were healed that came for healing. Dr. Thiagan and I only prayed for 2 or 3 people in total, the other 25 or so were ministered to by the students

Above & below: Pastor Elito led 21 first time commitments personally to the Lord. Over 50 came forward, many backsliders.

We returned home to Malapatan after our 17-hour day. The next day was a sort of day off, except for Dr. Thiagan. He continued to be a blessing for the village and made sure that Pastor Elito's family had their dental needs taken care of. He finished this last day at approximately 8 PM!

I have learned again that God is more interested in our availability than our abilities!

In the aftermath...
Report received from Pastor Tito Cagang Sr. on December 7
"Last Sunday I visited the Barangay Spring the crusade site to see the pioneering work there that we have started. Praise the Lord because there were plenty of people who attended the Sunday service and most of them were those who accepted Jesus Christ during the crusade. Therefore I'm so glad because the word of God that you preached at the last crusade has brought more fruit. Oh, how really wonderful. We miss you because of the good deeds you left for us. You are truly a man of God who is used by the Lord to heal the sick."

Just Another Healing Seminar?

Most pastors and leaders from charismatic churches believe they have a fairly good understanding of the ministry of healing. They have attended various Seminars and Conferences on healing as well as Benny Hinn Crusades.

They may feel they have seen it all, that they have “been there and done that.” Perhaps they saw and heard some things that they could not quite agree with. They have been taught that only some specially anointed servants of God---certainly not all--- have the gift of healing. And most leaders and believers have concluded that the Lord has not given them that gift.

Thus the crowds come and fill up the sports arena or stadium when Benny Hinn or some other celebrated healing evangelist comes to town. And that is the end of the story for them regarding the ministry of healing.

However, it turns out that is not the end of the story, whether according to Scripture or to experience. Scripture teaches that even before the Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost bringing the gifts of the Holy Spirit---including the gifts of healing---Jesus already gave power and authority to his disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons.

Luke 9:1 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Jesus gave his twelve disciples this power and authority for preaching the kingdom of God to the lost. The miraculous healings would demonstrate to the lost that the kingdom was near. This power and authority was given not only to the twelve apostles, but also to the seventy disciples.
Luke 10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. …9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’

In fact, to whomever Jesus sends out to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom of God to the lost, Jesus gives this power and authority.

Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; 18 …they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” …20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Thus Scripture clearly teaches that believers---all of whom have the responsibility of sharing the gospel---have been given power and authority to heal the sick and cast out demons for the purpose of demonstrating and confirming the truth of the gospel. This is not the gift of healing, which was made available to the Church only afterwards beginning on the Day of Pentecost. The gift of healing, as are all the gifts, was given primarily to build up the body of Christ, to minister healing to infirm believers.

1 Corinthians 12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good [of the body of Christ].

In contrast, even before the Holy Spirit came, Jesus had already given the authority to heal to his disciples for the purpose of proclaiming the kingdom of God to the lost; that is, for the purpose of evangelism. Thus the purpose of the gift is quite different from the purpose of the authority to heal. While the gift of healing is not given to all, every believer has been given authority to heal because he is a witness of Jesus Christ to the lost.

This is what most charismatic leaders and believers fail to understand in terms of actual practice. But the Lord is now restoring to the Church the understanding and exercise of the authority to heal the sick and cast out demons for the sake of the gospel and the Great Commission.

Pastor Albert Kang of Malaysia who is the Coordinator for Elijah Challenge Asia taught about this authority to heal to servants of God in the Philippines. These pastors and leaders began to heal the sick as Jesus commanded his disciples in the gospels. They and their church people witnessed many miraculous healings after being trained. After Albert returned to Malaysia, the Filipino pastors whom he had trained began to share what they had learned with other area pastors. The following is an exchange from their email correspondence with Albert.

From the Philippines:
“Pastor Reggie and I had a meeting with Pastor Arnold Acay (Officer in Makati Ministerial) and Pastor Sam (Officer in Valenzuela Ministerial). We had a meeting at Max Restaurant where we presented The Elijah Challenge. At first they were quite skeptical because they already knew some things [about healing]. But we told them the simplicity and the difference with The Elijah Challenge.

I am so happy that they are interested. I am just like a sales representative selling things through testimonies. Ha ha ha! Praise the Lord, they are considering The Elijah Challenge. They will present The Elijah Challenge to their ministerial association so they can set things up for the upcoming Elijah Challenge Seminar.”

Pastor Albert replied to them:
“This is great! I really appreciate what you folks are doing for the Lord---sharing The Elijah Challenge Model of End-time Evangelism. Most pastors would be skeptical when they hear about teaching on healing. I was one of them. However, when they learn about the kingly anointing and look at Luke 9 and 10, they would at least be convinced that scripturally, it is viable. Then we show them a real-life demonstration---once they see the actual healing before their very eyes, they are convinced.
We did that at Nueva Ecija in the first meeting with fifty-plus pastors and church leaders. The first person to try out The Elijah Challenge healing was an elderly Pastor who had an arthritic left knee. She sat stoically and her non-verbal body language was saying something like, "Okay, I am here---heal me." After the third round of the laying on of hands, she was completely healed. The atmosphere turned from skeptical to warm reception of The Elijah Challenge.”

From Missionary Keith Roussel of Roberts Liardon Ministries:
"I have recently returned from our missions trip. We had a great time! I was so amazed by the results. The students stepped forward in boldness and faith and they performed many healings through the power of God. I could see the look of joy and amazement in their eyes as the people who they were laying hands on were instantly healed! They became so addicted to healing people that they took every opportunity to heal the sick that came their way.

We ministered in a Musl__m community during the trip. This was my first chance to perform the healings before preaching the message, and it worked! When the people saw the healings they flocked to us. I've become so addicted to the success of this method of reaching the lost that I cannot wait for the next opportunity to put it into action!"

This is not the same as what we have been taught in the past about healing. The Lord is now restoring to the Church a fuller understanding and practice of New Testament healing for the end times and the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

The Elijah Challenge in Calgary, Canada

December 2010
New Beginnings Church
A bird’s eye view of Calgary
This was our first trip to Calgary, and as it is sometimes when we make an initial visit to a new area, it was a time of planting seed. Most of those who attended the Training were leaders of New Beginnings Church, pastored by Allan and Brenda Pole.

A group of a half-dozen disciples traveled from Lethbridge, over two hours away to the south, to attend the Training. There was also a disciple named Carl who came from the state of Montana across the border in the United States.

Miraculous Healings
The Lord gave us grace and wisdom to teach the disciples, and confirmed the teaching in various ways during the Training. On Friday Sister Nora, a leader who suffered from a condition that caused pain from her hand to her shoulder, was instantly set free as two sisters laid hands on her.

On Saturday, a woman who had a heart condition who was not at the training reported that she felt fine after Rose ministered to her at a distance from the Training venue. On Sunday she still felt fine.

An elderly believer not at the Training who had a heart condition and hearing loss in one ear reported that he was able to climb stairs without getting breathless and could hear well with the ear after receiving ministry at-a-distance the Saturday afternoon session. Brother Carl from Montana had hearing loss in a certain frequency range, but after two brothers ministered to him on Saturday, he said that he could hear in that range.

On Sunday there was present a middle-aged sister named Ann who had a long-term sinus condition since she was a young girl. As a result she suffered from constant congestion and discomfort in her head, and also had back pain. When Brenda laid hands on her, Ann felt God's healing power come upon her. Later she testified excitedly that her head had completely cleared up---for the first time since she was a young girl---and her back pain was gone.

The Upshot
The disciples were built up by the Training and in obedience to the Lord's command will be putting it into action in Calgary. Years ago Brother Allan received a prophetic word that God would be using him in healing. We believe it will now come to pass.

Allan and his leaders Hank and Nora will be in Caingin, Philippines next year on a mission trip. We are confident that they will witness mighty miraculous healings and reap a harvest of souls on that trip, and even conduct the Basic Training for the Filipino churches.

Hundreds Miraculously Healed and Saved in ORISSA, India

Orissa is the place where many Indian Christians had suffered brutal persecutions from 2007 to 2008. Two years after the bloody pogrom Christians in Orissa still live in a state of insecurity and danger. But God is moving mightily among the people there. Read about the report that we have received recently.
-----------------------------------------------

We have just received a report from Orissa, India where Christians had been brutally persecuted by fundamentalists Hindus beginning about two years ago. In the area of Tandrang, the Lord brought people from about 25 different villages to witness the sick being healed as the gospel was preached by our dear brother and co-laborer Subodh Jena Kumar of Shalom Ministries.

The results were historic, not just for Orissa but for Subodh himself in the ministry the Lord has graciously entrusted to him. (He is only in his mid-thirties.) He wrote us:

“I am excited to send the report as our journey to Tandrang was very difficult, but God performed mighty miracles by healing hundreds of people such as-- two blind men whose eyesight was restored, three deaf people’s ears were opened, people were healed of fits [epilepsy?], back pain, chest pain, etc.

Moreover, hundreds of lost [Hindu] souls came to the saving knowledge of Christ. “

As soon as I receive from Subodh his formal report along with photos, I will post them on our website and send you the link so you can see what the Lord did in Orissa---where Christians suffered so terribly not long ago.

During the persecution of Christians in Orissa beginning in 2007-2008, it had occurred to me that following the suffering of His people the Lord might grant a harvest of souls there. It appears to be coming to pass. “The seed of the Church is the blood of the martyrs.”
